Exploring EE at Urbana

22,000 students representing 144 countries gathered at Urbana 06, InterVarsity’s twenty-first student mission convention. Urbana is held triennially to transform students and develop world changers. The conference took place December 27-31, 2006, in St. Louis, Missouri.

EE representatives met with hundreds of students who are at a critical decision-making point in their lives. During Urbana, kids meet with experts in global ministries and representatives from churches, mission agencies, and Christian educational institutions to cultivate their love for God and determine His purposes for them.

The theme for 2006 was “Live a Life Worthy of the Calling.” Hundreds of students stopped by the Evangelism Explosion booth area inquiring about opportunities with EE. “These are quality people who the Lord could use in EE,” says Leon Pannkuk, Regional Coordinator for four central states.

Due to EE’s presence at the conference, many contacts were established with students and middle-age people that may result in some choosing EE. “We had good communication with the students,” Leon recalls. “My impression of the students is very positive. A number of them have EE experience and shared many wonderful testimonies of what EE has done for their churches.”

EE Regional Director, Rev. Lee Hsia, says EE was in the perfect place at Urbana. “We had over 70 people indicate their interest in joining our staff and going on a special short-term mission trip to Fiji,” Lee says. “Also more than 50 college pastors, InterVarsity staff, and student leaders signed up to host a Share Your Faith Workshop on their campus!”

EE’s Impact on Young Lives

During Urbana 06, InterVarsity’s twenty-first student mission convention, held in St. Louis, MO, December 27-31, 2006, Evangelism Explosion met several students who were trained in EE. Some of them shared positive testimony of the impact EE has made in their lives:

IGOR
Igor, an exchange student to the United States, is using EE to reach his American classmates for Christ. He received his EE training all the way from his hometown in Kazakhstan!

ANGELA
Angela has just recently received EE training at her local church. She is on staff with the Crescent Project, formerly Arab International Ministry, which trains North Americans how to reach Muslims with the hope of Christ. Angela has found EE to be “totally useful” to her personal ministry and ministry with the Crescent Project.

ROB
Rob is a student at Purdue University, who met his friend Ken from Malaysia online through AIM (America Online Instant Messenger). When Rob shared with Joe, the InterVarsity staff worker at Purdue that he prayed to receive Christ through AIM, he almost couldn’t believe it! But Joe has seen a change in Rob’s life, and Rob has been faithfully attending church for the past few weeks since he became a Christian. When Rob introduced Joe to Ken through AIM, Ken sent their saved AIM conversation to Joe, and Joe immediately recognized that it was the EE Gospel outline!

G.P.
While most EE-trained students went through the training in recent years, G.P., a long-time veteran missionary, received his EE training over 30 years ago! G.P. is now Director of Bridges International, the international ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ. He continues to use EE to share his faith in his personal and professional ministry.
