Lifestyle Evangelism

The following stories are of equipped people sharing their faith day-to-day.

On a plane

EE Vice President for Youth, Rick Bond, was coming home from a youth clinic. In addition to many professions during the clinic’s on-the-job training, The Lord provided another opportunity. While on the plane, Rick found an “appropriate opening” to share the Gospel with the lady sitting next to him.

“I shared the Gospel and it was one of those conversations where the person was ready to hear and accept. She prayed to receive Christ as we were descending into Fort Lauderdale.” More people than we realize are eager to know Christ!

Down the highway

Larry Bohanon, a youth pastor who attended an EE youth clinic, while driving down a highway, saw some rock for sale. “I turned around and went back to check it out.” He was helped by a young man who said that he and his wife were saddened by a TV commercial they saw about some handicapped children. They had been talking about how they needed to get their three children ages 13, 11, and 7 into church.

“One thing led to another and I asked him if he died, did he know whether he’d wake up in heaven?” The man said no but that he would like to. After presenting the Gospel, the man accepted the free gift of eternal life. His wife was already a Christian and, no doubt, was filled with joy!

A new home

Eileen Blackburn decided to refinance her home. Her loan officer’s name was Gary. Gary was friendly and open and Eileen wondered if Gary had a spiritual birthday. She made sure to bring EE literature with her the next day when they would meet again.

As they were filling out paperwork, Gary began sharing about the love he had for his son (nine years old) and that it had been difficult going through a divorce a few years ago. Eileen understood, having been through two divorces before coming to know Jesus at age 34. Eileen shared her testimony with Gary and how her spiritual birthday had more meaning that her physical birthday. “I pulled out the red Partners in Growing booklet and showed Gary the spiritual birth certificate. I sensed God telling me to wait to share the Gospel.”

Eileen shared this experience in her church. One of the deacons decided he wanted to refinance his home. He, too, contacted Gary and talked with him about the Lord. “Between both of our families,” said Eileen, “we kept inviting him to our church, even though he lives 55 miles away.” Gary was offered a special invitation to join Eileen and her family at church on Easter Sunday. It was difficult for Gary to accept the invitation. But Gary decided to go. On his way there, Gary took a wrong exit and arrived 20 minutes late. “Just like the devil,” said Eileen. But the Easter service was beautiful, and Gary even attended Sunday School. Afterwards, Gary joined Eileen’s family for lunch.

During lunch, family members shared their testimonies. Then the Gospel was shared with Gary. Gary asked for prayer to help him make that decision right then and there. As they began to pray, Gary cried out “the most beautiful sinner’s prayer I have ever heard,” said Eileen. “We didn’t even tell him to pray!” Gary signed the Partners in Growing spiritual birth certificate and said that he wanted his nine year-old son to have a spiritual birthday too. It was a truly blessed Easter Sunday!
